Dr. McDougal seems to an informed vegan. He and his wife are good examples of what he teaches a starch based diet. He says civilizations have gotten by for thousands of years on starch based diets. I think he is probably right for people who are processing sugars properly however many are not. And I don't think meat would have been a central ingredient in the Lord or Jews diet were it altogether bad for you.
People on behavioral meds tend not to process sugar or glucose properly that's a large percentage of the American population. May be the reason we are so fat not so much the diet. As stated on my weight loss page elevated sugar levels in the blood not properly processed leads to fat molecules being created to store that sugar. Glucose is the fuel that cells use to fuel the body. When it becomes elevated on factors such as insulin resistance it can't get into the cell and when it can't the brain the cells or other cells die or starve to death.
Starches really elevate blood sugar levels and diabetic checking their sugar can attest to that. So I think Dr. McDougal may be right for some but not for all. My personal diet has been pretty successful and I have been able to add some starches and sugar to my diet but I can overindulge and then have to be careful for a few days to get back to my weight which is still at 203 right now. Thats obese going by some standards but I believe thats unrealistic if I were my prescribed bmi index weight I would look terrible and sickly. I am comfortable physically and otherwise at 200.
On the meat issue there is some teaching on biblical histories not contained in the canon of scripture but Gospel materials that Jesus was a vegetarian and talked to the animals during his sojurn on the earth the Gospel of the Holy Twelve is such but I believe it may have altered by eastern religions teachings. But it may be an important document non the less.
An important component of health is praying for and caring for the sick and others as directed by scripture. There are those that teach divine health and that may be a truth the Isralite children suffered no disease and their clothes didn't wear out shoes either while they were in the wilderness they were even protected from the wild beast by the LORD. Healing is the childrens bread deliverence too as many sicknesses especially mental have spiritual roots.
Fats are necessary for good health recent teaching on PBS have featured diets that have fat as an essential ingredient. Lets eat good fats such as avocados flax seeds olive oil and salmon and such. A little cheese and eggs on occasion I don't believe are bad for you some things need to be eaten in moderation such as nuts and seeds. They are dense calories but I am not sure the body processes fats the same way it does sugars. Elevated blood sugar by a lot of scientist is the reason for fat gain. I tend to agree with that. God bless here's to good health for all, 3John 1:2 " Beloved, I pray that in all respects you may prosper and be in good health, just as your soul prospers"
